SARASOTA COUNTY (SNN TV) – State Rep. Margaret Good is getting support from national Democrats as she tries to unseat incumbent Suncoast Congressman, Vern Buchanan.
Good also announced a fundraising record for her campaign, raising over $50,000 more than Buchanan – $476,900 compared to his $426,600. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced that Good is worthy of the organization’s Red to Blue program. The program, which is aimed at winning back Congress from Republicans, will supply Good’s campaign for the 16th district seat with fundraising support, strategic guidance and staff resources.
Congressman Buchanan’s campaign manager, Max Goodman, told the Bradenton Herald that the DCCC’s support in the race hasn’t worked out too well for his previous opponents.
“It means absolutely zero, and it meant nothing to Vern’s previous opponents who were placed on the same program and beaten soundly,” Goodman said.
Good will face Buchanan in the Nov. 3 General Election. They are running to represent Florida’s 16th Congressional District, which includes Manatee County and parts of Sarasota and Hillsborough counties.
